This transfer, typically referred to as a ‘buyout’ may include the right to reproduce, distribute, modify, and monetize from the creator’s original work.

A copyright assignment is not the same as a license. While it is easy to confuse the two, generally a license is a formal way to grant permission to another party to use your creative work, whereas a copyright assignment actually transfers copyright ownership of your creative work to another party. Copyright assignments should be granted sparingly and only for a reasonable payout.
